Center for Justice Research

BGSU President Rodney Rogers, left, and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announce
the creation of the AG’s Center for Justice Research.

'Science Informing Policy'

The Center for Justice Research, a partnership between the office of Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Bowling Green State University, was created in November 2021 to empirically explore criminal justice statewide.

The center – led by Dr. Melissa Burek – will play a vital role in informing policy debates and building evidence-based practices in Ohio.

It gives Ohio a unique opportunity to move ahead of the curve in creating effective, bipartisan policy that is supported by empirical data and free of bias.

“Better data and good science mean better policy decisions,” AG Yost says. “Opinions are good, but opinions based on facts and the real world are even better.”

Bowling Green President Rodney Rogers says the partnership underscores the power of a public university and public state agency to create public good.

“Our faculty and students will identify and investigate research areas that are of particular interest, providing greater insight for decision-making that affects the entire state.”
