About Our Clients

The Bureau of Workers’ Compensation collects workers’ compensation insurance premiums from employers, oversees the insurance system, and pays compensable claims to injured workers. The Industrial Commission of Ohio resolves claim disputes through an administrative adjudicatory process.
 
BWC Administrator
 
The BWC Administrator is appointed by the Governor and is responsible for the overall management of BWC. The Administrator prepares and submits information and recommendations to the BWC Board of Directors to assist the Board in carrying out its duties. R.C. 4121.121; R.C. 4121.13; R.C. 4121.39.   The Board advises BWC’s Administrator on all policy and operational matters. It is responsible for safeguarding the assets of Ohio’s workers’ compensation system, including maintaining the solvency of the State Insurance Fund.  The Board also provides independent verification of BWC’s financial and operational performance. R.C. 4121.12.  The BWC Board is represented by our office’s Executive Agencies Section.
 
The Industrial Commission
The Commission consists of three members appointed by Governor.  The members consist of: a) one representative of employers; b) one representative of employees; and c) one representative of the public.  The Commission’s primary role is to adjudicate disputed claims.  R.C. 4121.02.  There are three levels of hearings: 1) district hearing officer; 2) staff hearing officer; and commissioners (3-member panel).
