9/24/2012

Corrections Basic Commander/Instructor,

The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission will release revisions of basic training lesson plans on a continuing basis with curriculum updates being completed on a regular 6-month schedule.  Effective dates will always be either January 1st or July 1st and the updated curriculum materials will be posted on the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG), at www.ohleg.orgapproximately eight weeks before the effective date. If you do not have or cannot get access to OHLEG, please complete the attached “Request for Access” form and return to Director Fiatal for approval of eOPOTA and OPOTC curriculum access.  Forms can be faxed to 740-845-2675.

The Commissioners met September 20th and approved curriculum changes for the Corrections Basic Training program. The curriculum changes and corresponding lesson plans will become effective for schools beginning on or after, January 1, 2013. Please refer to the attached “Need to Know” document and curriculum Audit Sheet for specific information. Curriculum revisions may include, but are not limited to, changes in Student Performance Objectives, legislation, instructor qualifications, hours, ratios, or officer safety issues and instructional techniques. Our goal is to have the revised curriculum posted by November 1.

We will continue to communicate electronically with you about changes that may affect the status of your certifications, academies, and/or instructors, primarily by e-mail. Please ensure that we have your current email address on file. It is your responsibility to provide us with your current contact information.  Please visit our website atwww.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/OPOTAUpdate to update your e-mail, phone number, and address.

As always, please contact you assigned Certification Officer or Field Agent with any questions about how these changes may affect you.  You may also contact the Education and Policy Section, at 740-845-2700, for any specific curriculum questions.
