OPOTC Commander - Notice of changes effective January 1, 2015

10/1/2014

Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Commander,

The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) met September 18th and approved curriculum changes for the Peace Officer, Corrections, and Private Security basic programs.  The curriculum changes and corresponding lesson plans will become effective for schools beginning on or after January  1, 2015.  Please refer to the attached Commission Meeting Curriculum Changes for January 2015 document and curriculum audit sheets for specific program information.  Curriculum revisions may include, but are not limited to, changes in student performance objectives, legislation, instructor qualifications, hours, attendance, ratios, or officer safety issues and instructional techniques.

The revised curriculum and related documents will again be available on www.OHLEG.org.  In an effort to be more user friendly, curriculum is available for “one-click” download.  This feature allows all the curriculum documents to be saved at one time to your personal computer.  The option of saving individual files remains available.  Our goal is to have the revised curriculum posted by November  1st.

We will continue to communicate electronically, primarily by e-mail,  with you about changes that may affect the status of your certifications, academies, and/or instructors.  Please ensure we have your current email address on file.  It is your responsibility to provide us with your current contact information.  Please visit our website at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/OPOTAUpdate to update your e-mail, phone number, and address.

As always, please contact your assigned Certification or Compliance Officer with any questions about how these changes may affect you.  You may also contact the Education and Policy Section, at 740-845-2700, for any specific curriculum questions.
