Curriculum Changes for the Private Security Training Program

3/22/2013

Private Security Commander/Instructor,

The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) met March 21st and approved curriculum changes for the Private Security Training program.  The curriculum changes and corresponding lesson plans will become effective for schools beginning on or after, July 1, 2013.  Please refer to the attached Need to Know document and Curriculum Audit Sheet for specific information.  Curriculum revisions may include, but are not limited to, changes in Student Performance Objectives, legislation, instructor qualifications, hours, attendance, ratios, or officer safety issues and instructional techniques.

The revised curriculum and related documents will again be available on www.OHLEG.org.  In an effort to be more user friendly, Peace Officer Basic curriculum, effective July 1, 2012 or later, is available for “one-click” download. This feature allows all the curriculum documents to be saved at one time to your personal computer.  The option of saving individual files remains available. Our goal is to have the revised curriculum posted by May 1st.

We will continue to communicate electronically with you about changes that may affect the status of your certifications, academies, and/or instructors, primarily by e-mail. Please ensure that we have your current email address on file. It is your responsibility to provide us with your current contact information.  Please visit our website at www.OhioAttorneyGeneral.gov/OPOTAUpdate to update your e-mail, phone number, and address.

As always, please contact your assigned Certification or Compliance Officer with any questions about how these changes may affect you.  You may also contact the Education and Policy Section, at 740-845-2700, for any specific curriculum questions.
