Crisis Intervention Instructor,
With the approval of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, in September 2012, the BAS 3-4 Crisis Intervention topic and associated instructor qualifications will change for schools beginning on or after January 1, 2013. These topic changes will merge 3-2 Interacting with the Special Needs Population and 3-4 Crisis Intervention, into the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention. Topic 3-2 will remain blank on the audit sheet.
Both unit and special subject instructors will be allowed to teach the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention. Currently approved instructors in 3-2 Interacting with the Special Needs Population can continue to teach the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention. Currently approved instructors in both 3-2 Interacting with the Special Needs Population and 3-4 Crisis Intervention can continue to teach the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention. Currently approved instructors in 3-4 Crisis Intervention cannot teach the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention until they complete Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training, minimum 32 hours, and amend their BAS instructor certificate. In short, if you are a 3-4 instructor and not approved to also teach 3-2, you must complete additional training and amend your BAS instructor certificate to teach 3-4 Crisis Intervention, after January 1, 2013.
To assist in meeting this requirement, a list of approved CIT courses is attached.
If you have a question about whether or not you need to take additional training and amend your instructor certificate, please contact a Certification Officer. General questions about these changes can be addressed by your assigned Certification or Compliance Officer; curriculum specific questions can be addressed by the Education and Policy Section, at 740-845-2700, or by reply email.
