7/27/12 Email to Commanders - First Aid topic - Instructor Requirements and Field Agent Opening Audit Procedure

As you should be aware, the First-Aid topic is now a mandatory skill in the majority of the Commission’s basic programs; the most recent additions being in the Peace Officer and Private Security programs, effective July 1, 2012.  These recent changes also require the school commander and/or instructor to submit documents to the certifying organization to obtain students’ certification.

7/30/12 Email to Commanders and Crisis Intervention Instructors - BAS 3-4 Crisis Intervention - instructor training required

ith the approval of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission, in September 2012, the BAS 3-4 Crisis Intervention topic and associated instructor qualifications will change for schools beginning on or after January 1, 2013.  These topic changes will merge 3-2 Interacting with the Special Needs Population and 3-4 Crisis Intervention, into the new 3-4 Crisis Intervention.  Topic 3-2 will remain blank on the audit sheet.

6/29/2012 Email to Commanders - BAS 3-6, Missing Children Investigation, Human Trafficking Addendum - Effective 7/1/2012

House Bill 262 was effective immediately upon being signed by the Governor, June 27, 2012.  This legislation changes R.C. 109.73, requiring the Attorney General to provide basic training in handling violations of R.C. 2905.32, Trafficking in Persons.  As a temporary measure, the attached addendum to BAS 3-6, Missing Children Investigation will be a part of the BAS-026 curriculum code and will need to be taught in any academy starting on or after July 1, 2012.
