On July 22, 2009, at approximately 6:00 p.m. Morse's house was completely destroyed by fire. It was first believed Morse was still inside the house during the fire. Investigators made multiple attempts to find Morse in the house. His dog died in the fire, but Morse could not be found. His vehicle was still at the residence. He was in poor health and could not walk far without assistance. David was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve t-shirt and brown corduroy pants.
