On June 25, 1983, victim Deborah Kaye Smith was reported missing from her residence by family members. On August 6, 1983, Smith's decomposed body was discovered in an isolated area, located near State Route 212 and the Tuscarawas River, west of Bolivar, (Tuscarawas County) Ohio.
