On 19 January 2011, at 0413 hours, the victim, Stephen Shonn, was found deceased in his basement by his wife. His coat and pants pockets were pulled out as if they were gone through, and several items were found to be missing from the home. An autopsy later revealed the cause of death to be strangulation. Shonn was known to frequent restaurants near interstates and truck stop areas.
