On Monday, August 30, 2021, at 1:50AM, Columbus Police Officers were called to Grant Medical Center on a report of a patient with a gunshot wound. On arrival, officers learned 27-year-old Marcus Payne had been driven to Grant Hospital by his brother. The preliminary investigation revealed the brothers had followed and confronted some individuals they suspected of breaking into their vehicle. During the confrontation, one of these individuals produced a handgun and fired, wounding Marcus. On Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 8:24PM, Marcus Payne succumbed his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
