Scott left a note for his parents saying he was going to visit friends at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He was never heard from again. His black 1984 Ford Tempo was later found in the Beaver Dam Wilderness, in Arizona, near the Utah border. Someone had tried to push the car of the cliff, but the car got caught on a tree. Some of Scott's belongings were found scattered in the vicinity of the vehicle.
