Dear Commanding Officer, POBT Commander and Firearms Instructor,
The attached Semi-Auto Pistol Qualification Course of Fire and OPOTA RQT-2 target was approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission on September 15, 2011. Law Enforcement Agencies may use this course of fire and target as an alternative to the current standard beginning January 1, 2012. The use of the course of fire and target is mandatory for all Ohio Law Enforcement Agencies beginning January 1, 2013. The new course of fire and target will also apply to all Peace Officer Basic Training Schools starting on or after January 1, 2013.
This course of fire is a minimum standard. Agencies are encouraged to supplement this course with firearms training, to include low-light, move and shoot, and multiple target drills. Course demonstration videos may be requested at askOPOTA@ohioattorneygeneral.gov. Scoring training sessions for the new course of fire will be offered regionally in 2012. A comparable Revolver Qualification Course of Fire can be requested at askOPOTA@ohioattorneygeneral.gov. Additionally, this course of fire is intended for primary weapons only. Secondary weapons qualification courses and standards will be at the discretion of the agency. A suggested secondary weapon course of fire can be requested at askOPOTA@ohioattorneygeneral.gov.
OPOTA RQT-2 targets may be purchased from Law Enforcement Targets at www.letargets.com. Agencies wishing to pursue other means of printing targets can request assistance at askOPOTA@ohioattorneygeneral.gov. Thank you for your service to the citizens of our state.
