Interacting with the Muslim & Middle Eastern Populations
Does your community have a large Middle Eastern or Muslim presence? Would your department or agency benefit from a training formatted to introduce and explain the Arabic culture and the Islamic religion? If so, consider this FREE training opportunity. This class discusses the basic beliefs of the Islamic religion and also addresses common misconceptions foreseen by the public. Other issues covered include family structure, gender roles, assimilation with other cultures, domestic violence, sexual abuse, tips for interviewing and gathering facts, officer safety and much more. The curriculum for this class was designed for law enforcement but offers the same educational benefits for any profession in the public service domain.
Presenter Sarah Shendy is an officer with the Copley Police Department. Born and raised in an Egyptian/Muslim household, Officer Shendy has experienced personal and professional life in a multi-cultural environment. Officer Shendy holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Global Issues.
