(COLUMBUS, Ohio) — A defect in a product designed to keep infants safe has prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to issue a national recall today. As a result, Attorney General Richard Cordray urges Ohio parents to heed the notice and check infant car seat/carriers manufactured by Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., located in Columbus, Ind.

“When it comes to a child’s safety, parents can never be too cautious,” said Cordray. “All too often, parents fail to respond to manufacturer recalls leaving their children vulnerable to injury or even worse, death. A few minutes to check on a product that may have a defect can go a long way toward protecting our children.”

According to the alert issued by the CPSC, the recall includes Safety 1st, Cosco, Eddie Bauer and Disney branded infant car seat/carriers that were manufactured from Jan. 6, 2008 through April 6, 2009. The restraint handle to the seat can loosen and come off, posing a fall hazard to infants.

The manufacturer is offering a repair kit to consumers who own the product. Parents interested in the kit should contact Dorel Juvenile Group at (866) 762-3316.
