The Workers’ Compensation Section provides legal counsel and advice to the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (“BWC”) and the Industrial Commission of Ohio (“Commission”). The Section has an extensive trial litigation practice and represents BWC in the 88 common pleas courts throughout Ohio. Generally, the issue in this area of our practice centers on whether the claimant is entitled to participate, or continue to participate, in the workers’ compensation fund for an injury or occupational disease. The section also defends the BWC and the Commission in mandamus actions brought primarily in the 10th District Court of Appeals and the Ohio Supreme Court. The section’s main office is in Columbus, with regional offices in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Toledo and Youngstown.
Mission Statement
The section will demonstrate excellence in every phase of our work. The section will provide the highest quality representation to, and exceed the expectations of, our clients, the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation and the Industrial Commission of Ohio. The section’s primary goal is to seek resolution of cases in a manner which is in the best interest of our clients and to do justice to Ohio employers and injured workers.
Philosophy
The section will be responsive to inquiries from the public and ensure that such responses, made on behalf of the Attorney General and our clients, are made in a timely, accurate and helpful manner.
To further the goals of the Attorney General’s Office and the section, teamwork, professionalism, responsibility, initiative, respect, tolerance and creativity are expected of all section staff.
